Rasa Sayang is an interdisciplinary performance work, part of a series of productions developed by long term collaborators director/dancer Tony Yap, musicians/composers Tim Humphrey and Madeleine Flynn, and visual artist Naomi Ota. This work premiered in Melbourne in April 2010 to critical acclaim and sold-out houses throughout the season, and was subsequently nominated for both the Green Room Awards and Australian Dance Awards. Sayang, meaning ‘love’ in Tony’s native Malaysian, is the name of his mother, the inspiration for the work. Rasa Sayang brings together traditional spiritual themes from East and West in a contemporary visual architecture.

Tony Yap Company creates performance experiences that are visceral and spiritual, deep and simple at an elemental level, resonating for audiences on multiple levels, and crossing cultural, social and economic divides. Since 2008 the company has performed in Korea, Malaysia, Singapore, Japan, Indonesia, China, Vietnam and Australia.
